Not my President's Day: refuse to normalize 45.

Are you going to a Not My Presiden'ts Day Rally or taking on the 6 steps to reject the normalization of 45? Let us know!

We'll shout you out!

Today is Presidents Day, a holiday meant to celebrate those who have led our country as President of the United States of America. Many across the country are refusing to acknowledge our current president in this capacity and are joining the Not My Presidents Day rallies taking place across the country today. In addition to these protests, there are many ways you can refuse to normalize 45’s presidency every day for the remainder of his term.

  1. Don’t use his name. Call him whatever else you want -- we’ve been calling him “45,” short for 45th President, as suggested by Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Cheeto-in-Chief. Drumpf, the family name born by 45’s German ancestors -- whatever strikes your fancy. This is a refusal to acknowledge his legitimacy as president.

  2. Don’t use his language.  Even if it’s to make fun of him.  Words have power. Repeating the hateful things that 45 says normalizes them.

  3. Work against dangerous policies. Keep organizing, calling, faxing, sending postcards, showing up at town halls and rallies. We’ll do our part to keep providing you with scripts and resources to stay informed.

  4. Don’t spread fake news. 45 has now declared the media to be “the enemy of the American people,” and is circulating a highly biased survey about media consumption, so it’s more important than ever that we, as citizens, spread the most accurately reported information. Be wary of sketchy URLs you’ve never heard of before. Read the full article to make sure it makes sense. Flag Facebook articles that appear to be from illegitimate sources.

  5. Remember that 45 isn’t acting alone. He has a Cabinet, a Republican majority in both houses of Congress, and nearly 63 million people who voted for him. Refer to the actions of the “Republican administration” -- moderate Republicans won’t be thrilled about being lumped into this category and may be encouraged to take a stand against controversial policies, and it holds accountable all the Republicans who are happy to go along with the new administration’s policies.

  6. Stay hopeful and positive, whenever possible. Look ahead to 2018; look to 2020.  Look at the kindness and compassion that so many in the country are displaying as allies. 45 and other Republicans love to characterize the resistance as angry, violent, and dangerous, in an attempt to widen the divide in this country, but we know that The People, United, Will Never Be Defeated.
