Muslim ban redux: tell your Senators to persist.
Just before it was to go into effect, two federal judges stepped up and froze the new Muslim ban, but this is only a temporary solution, so we’re calling our Senators and asking them to support S.549, a bill that would block the implementation of 45’s discriminatory Executive Order.
Ok, let’s do a quick recap of where we’re at with the travel ban. In January, 45 issued an Executive Order banning citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US. In February, a federal court found the Executive Order unconstitutional and therefore no longer valid. On March 6th 45 issued a new Executive Order reinstating the travel ban with some minor changes. The notable differences are that the new travel ban does not include Iraq in the list of targeted countries, and that it does not block individuals traveling with valid visas or green cards -- but it’s still very clearly a travel ban targeting Muslims. In fact, TWO federal judges in the last 12 hours hours have found the ban to be discriminatory, a “realization of the long-envisioned Muslim ban,” and in violation of the constitution. Thanks to U.S. District Judge Derrick K. Watson in Hawaii and U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang in Maryland, this ban has come to a temporary halt. We need to act now to ensure the ban is permanently blocked.
Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) has introduced S.549 to prohibit implementation of the Muslim ban. The bill would withhold funding that would allow the administration of the Executive Order.
Call your Senators today and ask them to support Sen. Murphy’s bill and block any Executive Order which bars the entry of immigrants and travelers on the (thinly-veiled) basis of religion.

Hi, my name is [NAME]. I'm a constituent from [CITY/STATE/ZIP] and I don’t need a call back. I'm calling to ask the Senator to support S.549, a bill that would prohibit implementation of the revised travel ban Executive Order. It’s clear that the purpose of this order is not to improve national security, but to discriminate against Muslim immigrants. Thank you for your time.
