Russian election interference: call for a special commission.
Right now both Congress and the FBI are investigating WTF kind of illegal S%*! has been going down between 45 and the Russians. But the more we hear about Republicans’ shady activity, the more we think we need an independent investigation into Russia’s interference in the election done by a special commission (aka not tied to any party).
Today’s #DailyRevolution is to call your Senator and request that an independent commission be established to get to the bottom of Russia’s possible interference in the 2016 election.
In November, the Obama administration accused Russia of attempting to interfere in the election by hacking the computers of political organizations. 45 fires back, tweeting: "There was absolutely no effect on the outcome (of the election) whatsoever.”
In February, National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s communication with the Russian Ambassador during Obama’s presidency is discovered, and Flynn resigns. 45 says, “I think [Flynn’s] been treated very, very unfairly by the media.”
Later that month The New York Times reported that 45’s aides and associates had contact with Russian intelligence officials during the 2016 campaign. 45 tweeted: “The Democrats had to come up with a story as to why they lost the election, and so badly (306), so they made up a story - RUSSIA. Fake news!
U.S. Intelligence agencies conclude that Russian intelligence DID hack Democratic Party computers to interfere in the election. Democrats call for a special prosecutor to investigate Russia’s interference. 45 tweets: “Russia talk is FAKE NEWS put out by the Dems, and played up by the media, in order to mask the big election defeat and the illegal leaks!”
In March it’s discovered that Trump’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions failed to disclose meetings with the Russian ambassador during his confirmation hearing in January. Sessions announces he will step aside from the investigation into Russian interference. 45 lets loose a series of tweets: “This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed.......to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand.”
FBI Director James Comey admits there IS an FBI investigation into whether 45’s campaign coordinated with Russian officials to sway the election. 45 refuses to acknowledge the investigation and tweets: “Just watched the totally biased and fake news reports of the so-called Russia story on NBC and ABC. Such dishonesty!”
Ok -- so that brings us up to just about now:
- Last week the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, publicly admitted to having secret meetings at the White House to examine intelligence reports, without notifying bipartisan members of the committee.
Things are heating up in the Senate, too; the Senate Intelligence Committee is firing up their own investigation (and trying to distance themselves from the mess in the House!).
This - FINALLY - is where we come in: Today we are calling our Senators to request an independent, bipartisan investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 US election. An independent commission is not a criminal investigation, and is different from a Committee investigation, but forces a bipartisan selection of Congress to investigate and report anything discovered back to the public.
