#GrabYourWallet for holiday shopping
Are you still needing to start (or finish) your holiday shopping? Today’s #DailyRevolution is to use #GrabYourWallet to shop conscientiously, if you're planning to shop at all.
#GrabYourWallet is a social media campaign started by Shannon Coulter in 2016, after 45’s infamous remarks about groping women, with the intent of organizing a mass economic boycott against companies that have any connections to 45. Coulter maintains a meticulous list of companies and organizations to boycott (currently, there are 70 companies on the list), why they’re on the list, who to reach out to at the company, and how the company can take action to be removed from the list. She also lists deprioritized companies to boycott, and entities NOT being boycotted at this time. So far she has removed 38 companies from the boycott list, including Nordstrom, Kmart and Neiman Marcus.
At a quick glance, what are some popular companies on the current list to avoid doing your holiday shopping at? Brace yourselves: Amazon, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Marshalls, and Wal-Mart are all on the list. These five companies, and more, are all known to carry Trump products.
Review the complete #GrabYourWallet list so that you can be informed when shopping for the holidays (and beyond). Using your consumer power can be a political statement. Together we can use our collective economic power to let 45 know how we really feel about his presidency and the values his administration stands for.
Bonus action: If you’re feeling up to it, challenge capitalism and forgo buying presents for Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or whatever holiday(s) you celebrate. Instead make and give handmade gifts or donate to an awesome organization in that person’s name.
